Pediatric Contact Lenses

  • Kids Can Wear Contact Lenses

Pediatric contact lenses offer several benefits for children, enhancing not just their vision but also their overall quality of life. These lenses provide a wider field of view and better peripheral vision than traditional glasses, which is particularly beneficial in sports and physical activities. Contact lenses also eliminate the discomfort and visual obstructions caused by fogging or rain on glasses. For children self-conscious about wearing glasses, contact lenses can boost self-esteem and social confidence. Additionally, modern contact lenses are designed with child-friendly features, such as ease of use and enhanced safety, making them a practical choice for children's vision correction needs.

  • Expert Pediatric Contact Lens Fitting

At Innovative EyeCare, we understand the importance of precise and gentle care in fitting children with contact lenses. Dr. Leah specializes in pediatric contact lenses fitting children as young as 5 years old, ensuring that each child receives a personalized and comfortable experience. We prioritize safety and education, spending ample one-on-one time with each child and their parents to teach them the proper techniques for inserting and caring for contact lenses. We are excited to enhance your child's vision with the utmost attention to detail and commitment to their overall eye health.

How much time is involved?

The initial fitting consultation for pediatric contact lenses at Innovative EyeCare takes approximately 90 minutes. During this session, we explore the various contact lens options (daily disposable lenses, monthly lenses, or ortho-k lenses) suitable for your child based on their prescription. We have trial lenses in stock and work with your child to ensure they are comfortable with the techniques for inserting and removing the lenses.

Following the initial fitting, we schedule a follow-up appointment within 1-2 weeks to assess comfort and fit, making any necessary adjustments. We conduct a check-up every six months to monitor the child's vision and eye health, ensuring the soft contact lenses continue to meet their needs. This comprehensive approach ensures optimal care and vision support for our young patients.

Who is a good candidate?

  • Active Children: Ideal for kids involved in sports or physical activities where glasses may be inconvenient or pose a safety risk.

  • Children with Changing Prescriptions: Contact lenses are an effective method for slowing the progression of nearsightedness in children. If your child's prescription increases annually, myopia management techniques using contact lenses may be a suitable option.

  • Children with High Prescriptions: Especially beneficial for those with significant refractive errors, as contact lenses can provide better vision correction and a wider field of view than glasses.

  • Kids Struggling with Glasses: Suitable for children who do not enjoy wearing glasses or frequently misplace or damage them.

  • Responsible and Motivated Kids: Children who are mature enough to handle the responsibilities of daily lens care and maintenance.
